"Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids"

Better Parenting Skills Workshop

Sunday, 25 July 2010 from 9am to 4:30pm
Southern Cross Sports Club
Klumpp Road, Upper Mt Gravatt (Brisbane), QLD

Make yourself a great parent and a hero to your kids. Within only one day, you will learn the most important skills you need in a clear, friendly and simple-to-follow way at the upcoming parenting workshop Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids.

If you are fighting for custody of your kids, our certificate of completion may be the difference between not seeing them and seeing them a lot.

Why do I need this workshop?

Like many people, parenting your children is probably one of the most fulfilling feelings in your life. Parents compromise a lot to give their kids what they perceive as happiness, joy and love. Somehow, parenting our children is the most responsible thing most of us do in our life, yet we are doomed to experiment every day of our kids' life, through trial and error, to find the formula for better parenting.

Parenting has been going on since the beginning of humanity, but many parents still feel they must reinvent the wheel over and over again and count on some mysterious instincts they are supposed to have.

Many parents have difficulties balancing their time between their jobs, their partner and parenting their kids. They also struggle to make whatever resources they have meet their kids' needs. This situation is reflected by their kids' behavior and state of mind, often causing unhappiness, frustration and self doubt. Teenage kids make parenting an even bigger challenge.

If you feel like this too, read on, because help is just around the corner...

"By implementing what I have learnt, I've seen changes within our family that have really contributed to happier and satisfying relationships"

- Merrilyn Vlaanderen, mother of 2, Macgregor High School

Is the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop suitable for all parents?

Yes. The Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop is suitable for parents of kids of all ages. We have had parents of babies, parents for toddlers, parents of primary school kids and parents of teenagers. The program is relevant for all parents, regardless of their kids' ages and circumstances.

A typical thing parents say is "I wish I knew this sooner". Therefore, we highly recommend this program for young parents to make sure they have good knowledge and tools to raise their kids from the get go. Having said that, it's better late than never...

Is the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop run differently for parents of teens vs. parents of young babies?

Teens with skateboardsYes and no. Although the ideas covered in the program are the same, we do our best to cater for different needs. Parenting is unique to every parent and depends on the age of the parents, the kids and the circumstances. So we adapt the examples and the discussions to the parents in the room. This is why it's best to tell us a little about the people who will be attending when you book the workshop.

Things like rules and boundaries to use with young kids are different from those required for teens. Since parents benefit a lot from examples and practical tips to establish good relationships with their young kids or teens, we make sure to tailor each program to the specific needs. This is why we recommend the workshop organizers to have a group with a common interest.

The program designed so that participants can implement them bases on their own style, beliefs and values, their kids' age and style or circumstances.

Is it easier to coach parents of young kids or parents of teens?

When parents come to the program and want to have a happy family life and a good relationship with their young kids or teenagers, they are half way to success. It is as easy to coach parents of young children as it is to coach parents of teens. However, parents of teens are usually more frustrated, so they have more pain to overcome, whereas parents of young kids have less pain, only because their kids are younger. In both cases, the skills they learn are valuable for many years to come, because the parent-child relationship is for life and there is always time to do things better.

Who else can benefit from this program?

Teachers and carers of kids of all ages, social services officers and social workers who support parents and kids can benefit greatly from this program.

"Providing parent education and support is a crucial element in creating a supportive environment for students ...

The feedback we received from our community members to these sessions was overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic. The program teaches simple but highly effective strategies that participants can easily understand and relate to, and can put into practice immediately.

I considered the training to be so useful and practical that all of our teaching staff attended an appropriately tailored training session at the commencement of this academic year. The P & C is already planning to offer this training to parents in our community in 2010"

- Derek Brady, Principal, Upper Mt Gravatt State School

How long is the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop?

The Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop usually runs for 8 hours, from 9am to 5pm, with one hour for lunch and two 15-minute breaks for morning tea and afternoon tea.

Some organizations ask for the program to run over two days to allow more discussion time and deeper understanding of the concepts.

Where do you run the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop?

Parents with babyWe accept bookings from anywhere in the world, as long as the venue can accommodate the number of participants and provides a data projector and a whiteboard.

This program runs in schools, organization training rooms, clubs and community halls, depending on the organizers' preference.

Should I come with my husband/wife?

Over the years, we have found that when parents attend the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop together, this has a greater impact on the home environment. Parents who came together can implement the techniques and concepts more easily by complementing and supporting each other at home. However, it may be difficult for both parents to attend or for one partner to be too reserved to expose emotions in a group.

It is better for one partner to attend than none. The other partner will soon discover the positive changes at home and want to be able to do the same. Also, the parent who has participated in the workshop can present the new skills to the other parent in the safety of their home and help the other parent become comfortable with the process before he or she joins in redesigning the family life exactly the way they both want it.

Most importantly, kids are a reflection of what happens with both their parents, so when you start parenting your kids differently, they will show improvement already, even if your partner hasn't changed.

"Ronit isn't just a presenter or a lifestyle coach, she lives her life according to her philosophy. Her presentations are engaging and at times confronting and each time that you hear her ideas, you leave with something new. I can strongly recommend Ronit as a person who has practical and proven techniques.

I was so impressed with the ideas and the practical and positive suggestions that I attended the seminar a second time and this time brought my husband along"

- Desley Birbeck, P&C President, Upper Mt Gravatt State School

What's special about the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop?

BoyFamily life is based on each parents' confidence, on parenting consistency and the relationship between the parents, as can be seen through behaviors. In times of stress, if a parent cannot rely on himself/herself or on the other parent, things start to fall apart for the children and they "inherit" the stress and "go nuts". It so happens that many of the stressful situations are caused by mismatches in communication styles and other personal preferences.

We've done extensive research on communication styles, love languages and rapport building and added these powerful tools to our parenting toolkit. Time and time again, we see how these tools help our clients come to terms with who they are ("I'm OK") and who they're dealing with, both partners and kids ("You're OK") and to relate more effectively. They also learn to "store" positivity and love during good times for "emotional winters", when these reserves come in handy.

Our program is holistic and focused on the long term. We work with parents to build their emotional intelligence and teach them how to sustain and even enhance the positive changes in themselves, their parenting and their partner. In a sense, parents become their own and their family's coaches. This combination ensures a healthy support structure for any family change and growth long after the workshop is over.

When parents go back home to their kids, their parenting comes from a place of calm and reassurance and when kids struggle, the parents can coach them towards their own solution, which empowers them, increases their confidence and makes them appreciate their parents and want to spend more time with them - win-win all around!

"Just a quick feedback to you regarding the Parenting Workshop that concluded tonight.

I enjoyed myself throughout the sessions that I attended. Initially, I thought it might be one of those standard parenting courses I have attended before, but Ronit took us through perspectives that are refreshing and new.

The course covered aspects of emotional intelligence, communicative skills, beliefs and values, and other radical but practical approaches to familial situations. This course applies to self-improvement, besides parenting...

Good job!"

What is the difference between the Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop and other parenting programs?

Mother and baby daughterThe Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop is future oriented, whereas other programs are more past oriented and problem focused, aiming to solve issues with parenting. We believe that looking for a solution for a problem after the problem evolved over years is like putting out fires as they occur. However good you are as a fire fighter, other fires can always start somewhere else. Moreover, fire fighters see fires everywhere.

The Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids parenting workshop focuses on creating a positive, supportive, fulfilling and happy family life, in which "fires" are rare and brief and life is mostly great. Our participants see opportunities everywhere.

Many people come to our workshops after attending other workshops and say that it is a refreshing concept to focus on the parents' wellbeing instead of giving them labels for their dysfunctional family life. We believe that "Happy Parents Raise Happy Kids" and that giving problems labels is not going to make kids life any better.

We don't dwell on the reasons, because we believe you can, at any stage of your life, take control and change your family life to be exactly the way you want it to be. We have many personal and other participants' examples for how focusing on the future, no matter what's happened in the past, lets you make your parenting better and learn to raise happy kids in a happy family.
